The lead singer died several years ago and it was like a national tragedy for New Zealand. This was one of their country’s biggest worldwide musical hits of all time.

I was in high school when this came out and we loved it. I generally hated Top 40, but this was an exception. Want to know the rest?

Same as you, I was in h.s. when this song hit in the US , and literally nothing else of theirs. It was a good song at a time of so many good songs, and I never followed up on this band to hear the res t of th ei r back catalog, but this song is one of those that’s just etched into memory.

Turns out he died in 2010 at 41. Apparently he had a long battle with a neurological disease similar to MS.
